This painting was created for a competition at Magnolia Gardens SC. Artists were asked to create an image of an imagined slave girl who is wearing the earring that was found at a dig near the slave quarters. I chose not to do a potrait but rather a more symbolic representation portraying the deep sense of loss felt for so much more than the loss of an earring. I wanted the viewer to sense and hopefully think about the sadness and loss this image
represents. It was an amazing show potraying each artists intrepretation of who this earring belonged to.
